- What content moderation is, and why it is important,

- Flags, commercial content moderation, automated content moderation, 

- Ethical challenges.


Why is it important:

Content online can be dangerous towards people and moderation helps combat people from seeing this content.


Types of moderation:

Pre-Moderation: Before publication Post-Moderation: Subject to review after publication, 

Hybrid Moderation: Combines both elements.

Human Moderators: Bringing human judgment, AI and Automation: Machine learning algorithms are used to detect and filter automatically.


Social media channels include community guidelines that explain what users can and cannot post


Content moderation helps combat:

1. Hate Speech,
2. Harassment
3. Misinformation,
4. Graphic and Inappropriate Content, 5. Spam and Scams,
6. Copyright Infringement.


Ethical considerations:

1.Freedom of Expression vs. Harm Prevention: Social media platforms enable individuals to express themselves, share opinions, and disseminate information.

2.Bias and Fairness: Content mouser confusion and mistrustderation systems can inadvertently reflect and perpetuate biases.

3.Transparency and Accountability: The criteria and processes used for content moderation are often opaque, leading to user confusion and mistrust.

4.Psychological Impact on Moderators: The well-being of content moderators, often exposed to disturbing and harmful content as part of their job.

5.Global Impact and Cultural Sensitivity: Social media platforms serve global communities with diverse cultural, religious, and political backgrounds. Content moderation practices must be sensitive to this diversity,
